Aquacare Air Polishing

AquaCare uses a mix of air, water and powder to gently wash away staining. If you’d like to have cleaner, bright teeth and unsightly stains removed, then this power treatment could be for you. This stain removal treatment will also enhance the effectiveness of teeth whitening treatment. If you opt for a ‘AquaCare’ stain removal followed up by our teeth whitening, it will help to produce your brightest smile yet.

After your AquaCare treatment, you may feel a ‘sandy’ feeling on your teeth immediately after. Don’t worry, these are natural minerals attaching to the tooth surface. The ‘sandy’ feeling will go away leaving you with bright and smooth teeth.

It is recommended to wait at least one hour after treatment so that the minerals have formed the protective enamel-like layer. Having Sylc clean and polish your teeth is safe and there are no side effects.

Oral Health & Hygiene FAQs

Why should I visit the hygienist?

A clean and healthy mouth will improve your appearance and confidence, help you to keep your teeth and give you fresh breath.

What is the hygienist’s role in the practice?

The hygienist’s main role is to professionally clean your teeth using a number of instruments, including scalers to remove plaque and tartar that you can not remove with a toothbrush.

One of their other hugely important roles is showing the patient the best way to keep your teeth free of plaque and finding the right type of inter dental products to suit you, including the right sizes of the inter dental brushes.

The hygienist may also show you on your x-rays, demonstrating where you need to focus on and where issues could be starting to arise.

Your dentist may suggest that you have fissure sealants, fluoride application oranti-bacterial gels. These treatments can be carried out by the hygienist/therapist.

What is gum disease (Gingivitis)?

Gum disease is a common condition where the gums become swollen, sore or infected. If you do not remove plaque from your teeth by brushing them, it builds up and irritates your gums.

If you have gum disease, your gums may bleed when you brush your teeth and you may have bad breath.

What is Periodontal disease?

If gum disease (gingivitis) is left untreated, it can further develop into periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the periodontium.

The periodontium is the name given to the tissues, ligaments and bones that surround and support your teeth. If left untreated periodont it is can severely damage these structures eventually leading to tooth loss.

Will the treatment hurt?

Scaling and polishing is usually pain-free however, if you do have any discomfort the hygienist can use local an aesthetic to help make things more comfortable for you. It is important that you let the hygienist know at the time so they can help with any discomfort.

If I see the hygienist, do I need to floss as well?

Yes you do. Ultimately, you are in control of your mouth between visits to the practice. Your hygienist will show you how to remove plaque with a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste and how to clean in between your teeth using floss or inter dental products.
